9260

Data verified

9260 is a silicon-manganese spring steel with about 2% silicon, giving an exceptionally high yield-to-tensile ratio and resistance to permanent set (sag). It is a mainstream coil spring steel for vehicle suspensions.

Applications & Processing

Applications: Coil springs, torsion bars, stabilizer bars, leaf springs, heavy clips.

Processing: Prone to surface decarburization — protective atmosphere or salt bath heating preferred; shot peening standard for fatigue duty.

FAQ

Why silicon in spring steel?
Silicon raises the elastic limit and tempering resistance without much cost, so Si-Mn springs keep their shape under repeated high deflection better than plain carbon springs.
