S275J2 vs S275JR

These two grades are listed as equivalents of each other: their chemistry windows overlap and they serve the same applications. They are not always identical — check the differences below before substituting, especially in certified designs.

S275J2

Structural & HSLA Steel

S275J2 is the low-temperature quality of the S275 family to EN 10025-2: same 275 MPa yield as S275JR, but with Charpy toughness guaranteed at −20 °C and tighter phosphorus/sulfur limits. It is the default step up when S275 plate or sections work outdoors in cold climates.

S275JR

Structural & HSLA Steel

S275JR is the middle step of the EN 10025-2 structural family, offering about 17% more yield strength than S235JR at a small price premium. It is a common choice where S235 is marginally too weak but S355 is not needed.
