GP240GH vs A216 WCB

These two grades are listed as equivalents of each other: their chemistry windows overlap and they serve the same applications. They are not always identical — check the differences below before substituting, especially in certified designs.

GP240GH

Structural & HSLA Steel

GP240GH (1.0619) is the EN 10213 cast carbon steel for pressure parts — the European counterpart of ASTM A216 WCB, specified for steam and pressure castings in PED-regulated plants, with elevated-temperature proof-strength values tabulated in the standard.

A216 WCB

Structural & HSLA Steel

ASTM A216 WCB is the world’s default cast carbon steel for valve bodies, pump casings and pressure castings — the “B” carbon grade with weldability good enough for cast-to-pipe joints. If a cast steel part has no special temperature duty, it is almost certainly WCB.
