AR400

Data under review

AR400 is the North American trade designation for 400-class abrasion-resistant plate — a hardness class (roughly 360–440 HBW), not a single ASTM grade. Chemistry is set by each mill to hit the hardness, so the composition shown is typical published mill chemistry, not a standard-controlled range; always order to guaranteed hardness and check the MTC.

Applications & Processing

Applications: Dump bodies, buckets, liners, chutes, aggregate and mining wear parts.

Processing: As NM400: plasma/laser/waterjet cutting, bending radii ≥3× thickness, low-hydrogen welding with controlled heat input.

FAQ

Is AR400 an ASTM specification?
No. A514/A829 do not define an “AR400” grade — it is a market hardness class supplied to mill datasheets. The comparable standardized grades are GB NM400 and the European 400-class brands (Hardox 400, XAR400).
