A351 CF8

Data verified

ASTM A351 CF8 is the cast equivalent of 304 stainless: the standard material for corrosion-resistant valve bodies, pump casings and process castings. Its composition window is deliberately a little wider than wrought 304 to suit casting practice, with a small controlled ferrite content for castability and weld soundness.

Applications & Processing

Applications: Chemical and food-process valves and pumps, marine castings, general corrosion-resistant pressure castings.

Processing: Cast and solution-anneal; machines like 304. Weld repairs with 308L-class filler are routine.

FAQ

CF8 vs 304 — interchangeable?
They are the cast/wrought pair for the same service and are routinely specified together (cast body, wrought trim). Chemistry windows differ slightly — CF8 runs to 21% Cr and 11% Ni — so coded work follows the product-form spec on the drawing.
