A351 CF3

Data verified

ASTM A351 CF3 is the cast equivalent of 304L: carbon capped at 0.03% so welded cast assemblies resist sensitization without a post-weld solution anneal. The standard grade for nuclear, food and pharmaceutical castings that will be welded in fabrication or repair.

Applications & Processing

Applications: Welded process equipment castings, nuclear and high-purity service, food and pharma valves and pumps.

Processing: As CF8, with the low-carbon benefit in the HAZ; weld with 308L-class filler.

FAQ

When must I specify CF3 instead of CF8?
When the casting will be welded and cannot be solution-annealed afterwards, or the service is sensitization-critical (e.g. oxidizing acids, nuclear). Otherwise CF8 is cheaper and more widely stocked.
