9SiCr
Data verified9SiCr is a Chinese low-alloy tool steel (GB/T 1299, of the Russian 9KhS lineage): silicon raises the tempering resistance and chromium the hardenability, giving an economical oil-hardening die steel with good edge life.
Chemical composition
| Element | Content (%) |
|---|---|
| C | 0.85–0.95 |
| Si | 1.20–1.60 |
| Mn | 0.30–0.60 |
| Cr | 0.95–1.25 |
Weight percent, per the governing standard ranges. Actual values per heat are on the mill certificate.
Properties
| Delivery condition | Annealed |
| Hardness (hardened) | 58–63 HRC |
| Density | 7.85 g/cm³ |
Heat treatment
Oil quench 860–880 °C; temper 180–220 °C. Low distortion for an oil-hardening grade.

Applications & Processing
Applications: Thread rolling dies, cold punches and dies, reamers, broaches, measuring tools.
Processing: Oil hardening is far gentler than the water hardening of T8/T10 — the standard upgrade where cracking or distortion appears.
