1.2367 / X38CrMoV5-3

Data under review

1.2367 is a modified H11-type hot work steel with the molybdenum raised to about 3%, closing most of the hot-strength gap to 1.2365 while keeping H11-class toughness. In ESR quality it is a premium die-casting and forging die steel for tools that crack or heat-check in standard H13.

Applications & Processing

Applications: Aluminium die casting dies (large, high-tonnage), hot forging dies, extrusion tooling, plastic molds for abrasive compounds.

Processing: Vacuum hardening and triple tempering are standard for die work; nitriding and PVD coatings combine well with its high tempering resistance.

FAQ

Where does 1.2367 sit in the hot work family?
Between H11 and 1.2365: H11-type Cr level (~5%) for toughness, 1.2365-type Mo level (~3%) for hot strength. It is the upgrade path when H13 dies heat-check early but full 1.2365 is too brittle for the tool geometry.
