1.2365 / 32CrMoV12-28

Data verified

1.2365 is the high-molybdenum hot work steel of the H10 family: nearly 3% Mo buys outstanding tempering resistance and hot strength for tools that stay hot for a long time, such as brass extrusion and copper alloy die casting tooling. It trades a little toughness for that hot hardness.

Applications & Processing

Applications: Brass and copper extrusion dies, die casting dies for copper alloys, hot press tooling, extrusion press stems and liners.

Processing: Use ESR quality for pressure-tight or polished dies; preheat tools before service and avoid quenching a hot die in water — thermal shock is its main killer.

FAQ

1.2365 or H13 for an extrusion die?
For aluminium, H13 is the standard. For brass/copper extrusion, where die temperatures run much higher, 1.2365’s extra molybdenum holds hardness that H13 would temper away.
